it's the moment to live and the moment to die NAME oakkit - oakpaw - cedarsmoke - cedarstar
GENDER Female
CLAN Riverclan
RANK Leader
APPRENTICE None
AGE Fifty-Five Moons
DESCRIPTION A beautiful lean golden brown tabby with green eyes
APPEARANCE Cedarstar is a bengal tabby mixed breed. She has a very lean build and is unusually petite. She is lithe and thin. She moves with a subtle sort of grace and has an almost dainty look in her eyes - though this daintiness is somewhat marred by her cold gaze. Her tail is long for a Riverclan cat, though this is in part due to her distant bengal heritage. Her small size often earns her looks of skepticism, which are shortly dispelled. Her strict attitude and queenly nature often give off an air of being much larger than she is. Her smaller body also gives her heightened agility and speed, especially in her base element – water.
As far as coloring goes, her base color is a lighter shade of chocolate brown. It is darkest on her back and gets somewhat lighters on her sides and the underpart of her tail. Her face and chest fur has auburn highlights, making her fur look a little more red/brown in those areas. She has a white/cream chin patch and light cream around her eyes. Her tabby/bengal markings are a dark ebony, going to black as they descend down her back and tail. Her eyes are a very light mint green. She has no outstanding scars, but for a few nicks from past battles.
PERSONALITY Cedarstar is the epitomy of "tough love". While she isn't completely heartless or cruel or malicious, she isn't a bundle of smiles and warm hugs either. She's very authoritative, and tolerates no insubordination. When it comes to her power and her position in the clan, she can be perceived as ruthless. Her eyes are often cold, though not for any sort of dislike for others or the world around her. She sees it more as a strength. She conducts herself very strictly and can be somewhat haughty, though she usually keeps her words to herself. She is a very no-nonsense sort of leader. Her punishments or decisions may seem harsh or undeserving, though it is not out of some cruel spite. She has an obsession with what she views as “perfection”.
As a result of emotional and occasional physical abuse from her father figure, Stonepelt, Cedarstar developed a form of OCD known as disgust OCD. She is obsessive about appearances and perfection. She is driven to achieve what she sees as the “perfect” warrior and clan leader. She has various tasks that need to be achieved in order to accomplish this, though these tasks and their necessities exist only in her mind. However, she's very passionate. She has a secret adoration of kits, which she conceals under the guise of "seeing to the needs of the Queens".
As a mentor, she is harsh and a bit of a perfectionist. But she is experienced and has much to teach. While she is harsh, it doesn't mean she doesn't smile or can't enjoy a laugh. She finds quite a few things amusing, most especially eager apprentices and idiots making fools of themselves. She conducts herself somewhat regally and oozes confidence. There is nothing she loves more than laying in the sun in the middle of camp (subtly near the Nursery). She longs desperately to be a mother, but demands absolute perfection of any tom that she would even begin to consider for a mate.
HISTORY Cedarstar was actually born Oakkit. Oakkit was the single daughter of Oakwhisper and Stonepelt. Her parents were both full-blooded Riverclan, though at some point there had been some mingling of Windclan and Thunderclan in her lineage as well.
Oakwhisper, Cedarstars mother, had never been particularly healthy. She was stunningly beautiful, but frighteningly fragile. She gave birth to two kittens, Cedarstar and a little tom that died within the womb. Stonepelt mourned the loss, but turned his doting attention to his little daughter. Oakwhisper had been weakened by the birth, and spent the majority of her time asleep. The Medicine Cat did what she could, but could offer no reason behind Oakwhisker's unusual weakness.
The time for Cedarstar to recieve her name came, but with it tragedy. Oakwhisker, weak and fragile, died of a simple illness. Her body simply couldn't fight anymore. Her surviving kitten was dubbed Oakkit, in honor of her departed mother. Oakkit grew into Oakpaw. Stonepelt was a fiercely protective father. But as Oakpaw grew, her coloring came out, her natural bengal and tabby colors. Oakwhisper had been a tabby, but Stonepelt was a gray shorthair. Another tom in the clan, one named Eagletalon, was half-bengal. Stonepelt began tossing the male suspicious glances, noticing for the first time how the other tom watched little Oakpaw, how he had frequently visited Oakwhisker, and how he was now careful to keep his distance.
Well two and two were put together easily enough. Stonepelt was furious at his deceased mate's betrayal, and took his fury out on the daughter he had lovingly raised. Stonepelt spoke nothing of his discovery to Oakpaw. Oakpaw couldn't understand why her father had changed so suddenly. He drilled her relentlessly, and yelled at her for even the smallest infraction. He demanded perfection in every way, all the while blaming her for her mother's betrayal.
Oakpaw was nearing the end of her apprenticeship when she finally fought back against the tom she thought was her father. It was then that the truth was revealed to her. Oakpaw rejected Stonepelt, severed all but the most necessary association with him. Yet she never attempted to speak to Eagletalon. In a way, she blamed him too. Stonepelt realized his mistake, but was too late. Oakpaw never forgave him.
When the time came for Oakpaw's warrior ceremony, she made a simple request of her mentor, one that her mentor relayed to their leader. Her new name was announced - Cedarsmoke. She had shed her old name, and any association with the mother that had betrayed Stonepelt, the father that had never claimed her, and the tom that had blamed her for his own lost love. She created herself anew. But she was never able to rid herself of the affects of her father’s hatred and abuse, and as such became a strict perfectionist.
She trained two apprentices, earning a place as one of the more “senior” warriors. When the deputy retired to the elder’s den, Riverclan’s then leader – Badgerstar – chose her to succeed their past deputy. Cedarsmoke accepted the position with mixed pride and horrible grief. She had achieved one of the goals she never thought possible – yet in her mind, she had sacrificed the possibility of ever mating and having kittens of her own, which she had desperately desired. She gave up on this possibility, though it caused her heart to ache. But the way she saw it, it was out of her line of duty. The perfect deputy put the clan before her own personal life.
Time went on and Badgerstar gave up his last life. Cedarsmoke rose to power, claiming her new name and lives as Cedarstar. And with her new, permanent position, her last feeble hopes of kittens of her own vanished. She came to embody what she saw as perfect – regal, queenly, and strict.
